Best Paper Award at I-ESA 2018

Last week, during I-ESA 2018 1, at the Fraunhofer IPK in Berlin-Germany, the Group for Research in Interoperability of Systems (GRIS) from UNINOVA-CTS has received the best paper award for the work developed in the recently concluded C2NET project  (H2020 636909,, where the team has been responsible for the development of the Data Collection Framework (DCF).

“A Lightweight IoT Hub for SME Manufacturing Industries" describes part of that endeavour, and is focused on one of the components developed, a low-cost middleware providing small and medium sized manufacturing industries the ability to virtualize and integrate the physical devices network installed at the shop-floor with the cloud.

The C2NET project (Cloud Collaborative Manufacturing Networks project) aims to provide a cloud-based platform for the supply network optimization of manufacturing and logistic assets based on collaborative demand, production and delivery plans. With developments such as the Lightweight IoT Hub it is providng a simple approach for implementing the Industry 4.0 vision in SMEs. The paper provides the details about the middleware developed, presents a methodology for its adoption and the efforts conveyed in its installation at the António Abreu Metalomecânica ( factory, in Santo Tirso – Portugal.
